About Kitchenton

Kitchenton was invented by a playgroup based in Berlin, Germany. Not very happy to keep expensive playsets after set rotations, and not in the mood for buying other 4x cards to build around new modern decks.

The idea is simple: After the rotation, they kept 2x of each individual card, and only 1x of legendaries, then sold the rest.

So they got money to reinvest, part in the new set, and part to pick some cards from the past to play casual modern. A goal was already achieved, but astonishingly, the better part still has to come: Modern games with the 2X rule are more entertaining, challenging, and unpredictable. Bingo!

The name Kitchenton is a crasis recalling the kitchen table where to play casual games and the singleton rule, which applies to legendaries. You can play the Kitchenton rule in any existing format. Kitchenton Modern, Kitchenton Pauper, Kitchenton Pioneer, Kitchenton legacy/vintage. There is also a Kitchenton standard, which is ideal for new non-competitive players.

Another playgroup in Italy developed a sort of "Kitchenton Brawl" as well, where the commander has to be nominated eventually during the game.

As a community, we share ideas with everyone. Therefore some of these "rule  variations" are mentioned in the website kitchenton.org

A public event organized by kitchenton.org takes place in Berlin for every new magic set release.
